# Keep ongoing work in one place

Lesson 4 of 6 in [Same Skills, Any Assistant](https://academy.memberpress.ai/courses/same-skills-any-assistant/), 5 min.

A one-off question can live in a one-off chat. Work that goes on for weeks needs a home, so the files and instructions are there every time you come back.

**The habit**

One project per piece of ongoing work, with its own files and its own instructions. Start a new chat inside it when a conversation gets long, rather than scrolling up.

**Side by side**

- **Claude:** Projects hold their own chats, knowledge and instructions.
- **ChatGPT:** projects hold chats, Sources and project instructions. OpenAI suggests one when work "will continue over time".
- **Grok:** xAI's FAQ mentions Projects on grok.com but doesn't document how they work, so check the app itself.
- **Cursor:** a project is the folder or repository you open. Its rules and `AGENTS.md` travel with it.

## Try these prompts

- Suggest how I should split my work into projects: what goes in each, and which files and instructions each one needs.
